Angry S5 rotors ... e-bay cr@p!

I am starting a complete rebuild of my s4 engine so I thought I would upgrade the rotating parts to S5, so I searched and searched and finally found a pair of S5 rotors on ebay and bought them...

I was wondering how to physically tell the difference between them. I just bought a supposed pair of S5 rotors off of ebay and I think I got hosed! I can't see any difference btween my S4 rotors and the ones I got from e-bay.

Oh wait there is one difference, one of the ones from e-bay was complete garbage! pitted all to hell and the edge of one of the apex grooves was all mangled

I think I may just stick with my s4 rotors on my rebuild...

You can measure the depth of the "bathtub" (depression in the rotor face) of each. The s5 rotors are not as deep thus are higher compression.
Use a straight edge across the face and measure down from it.

I hear you on the rotors/housings never from e-bay thing, I guess I learned that lesson the hard way.. I guess I have a nice paper weight. I sent the seller a note through e-bay since he listed them in good condition, but I doubt it will go anywhere..

One thing I learned though is my current S4 rotors are in really really good shape, now that I know what a crappy set looks like it makes me realize how good mine were. just have to look at the bright side of things I guess

S5 rotors are in late 1989 and newer (second generation) rx7s.

HP difference:
86-88 NA = 146 HP @ 6500 RPM w/ 138 Ft/lb @ 3500 RPM
89-91 NA = 160 HP @ 7000 RPM w/ 140 Ft/lb @ 4000 RPM

probably not worth just swapping, but if you were swapping anyway and rebuilding and porting I would think you would want to use the 89-91... you get 1,000 rpm higher redline too..

the 88 is in alot better condition and the 90 is automatic and has alot of interior problems but the cars are identical except the 90 had the trunk racks so it has holes in the deck lid and a dent in the fender but body work is my specialty its just my 90 has a salvaged title because it was a stolen vehicle and was recovered then i bought it what kind of tune would i have to have if i did a bridgeport? and what kind of power gains would i get? do they make carb intakes? and i was told rotorys have the biggest problems with accesories do they make delete kits for the air pump? and block offs for the egr im gonna remove the ac because its a convertible all i need is power steering water pump and alternator.

Weigh them.

Also the S4 rotors are cast while S5s are machined. Easy to tell in the bowls.

OK the s5 bowls are machined?? I thought the guy was full of cr@p... he said they were from a 1990 engine... they are cast and look just like my s4 rotors...

check out these pics:

he described them as not bad... I guess he meant they are not bad because they are garbage..

You can issue a dispute with paypal if you used it. At the very least, you can raise hell with the seller. Don't let that **** go undisputed or you give the seller more incintive to screw others.

I hear you misterstyx... never again stuff like that on e-bay...

I did send the seller a message and asked him if he shipped me the wrong rotors cause what I got wasnt in god condition or s5.. he replied, oh really.. maybe it got damaged in shipping! I don't think so...

I also started a paypal dispute... I hate the idea of shipping them back to him, then I will have to recover shipping cost and I fear he will try to sell again...

Post his name here and then post a thread about him the bed sellers forum. I surely don't want to buy from this guy either.

He messaged me back after I told him that is not what they are supposed to look like. He actually didn't know, his mechanic told him they were good and he could sell them. He is refunding the money and told me not to bother shipping them back since neither one of us can use them anyway,
