S5 motor into S4
ok my friend might by a 87 TII with blown apex seals. and the guys throwing in a jdm motor. he says its a series 4 motor with a s5 intercooler. i showed the pics to another guy and he said it was a s5 motor. can anyone tell from these pictures? are the intake manafolds the same between the two motors? i was thinking if their not just put the s4 intake manafold on the jdm motor. well i think thats enough questions for now. thanks

that engine had a metal "gooseneck", and the knock sensor was not by the spark plugs. to me it looks like an s4 block. i didnt see an egr in that lower intake manifold, but i'm not sure they had egr in japan, in US s4s had them there.
the way to tell for shure is to look at the metering oil pump, right below air pump. if its got a metal rod connected to it that goes to throtte body, its s4. if there are wires sticking out of it, its s5. its hard to tell by those pics.
you got the right idea about the manifolds.

do you have a picture of the metering oil pump or air pump? im new to rotarys, but fairly mechanicly inclinded. so if it is indeed a s4 motor with a s5 intercooler, it would swap right in correct? thanks for the help
