S5 GTU rims?

I'm not too familiar with all the different style rims for the RX7, but i'm pretty sure my rims are from a TII, but my car is a GTU N/A S5. Can someone post a picture of the stock S5 GTU rim?

Also.. the chrome has gone to **** on these, i'll probably be selling these soon to someone wanting to blast/rechrome them.

those are s4 t2 rims, from an 87. They are factory painted gray. The 88 t2 rims are very similar but polished shiny AL. The 89-91 t2 rims are multi-spoke, similar to the BBS mesh rims, and polished AL.

The s5 GTU/GXL rims are 15", very light, and polished AL with dull unfinished AL background. I have a set I want to sell cheap btw.

I will try to find a pic for you of each...

Then I have 88 t2 rims, in flaky shape. I am in the market for new rims.

I found out these don't have tubes, and the flaking chrome made the tires lose the seal... ugh.

I could always have them fixed, but I actually don't like them too much.

No, you have 87 t2 rims. The 88 rims have less "slots" at the edge then yours do.

out of all the FC rims, which are the lightest?
GTU rims are 5 spoke, and each spoke is kinda two spokes together. It's hard to explain, I don't have a pic.

Those actually aren't my rims, i just found the picture on ebay

If the 87 are similar to the 88, but the only difference is the polished look... then mine are 88 t2 rims.

I take that back. If it has less slots, then mine are 87, but it is polished.

So what is the real scoop?!

Were tubes inside the tires standard for the 88 t2 rims?

tubes...inside tires??? wtf?/ I thought that went out 25 years ago??

They used the same tires that every other stock passenger car made after like 1980 did, regular tubeless radials. What is this talk of tubes?

Because a 225-50-16 is a better tire than a 205-60-15...and the 87 t2 rims are fairly cheap. However the s5 NA stock rims are lighter.

Well, the flaking chrome made the tire lose its seal, i figured tubing might help. And yes, I am clueless in this area.

you keep talking about chrome...what chrome? no stock rim on any 7, ever, had chrome on it. Either a) you are mistaken and it is not chrome, or b) somebody has painted/chromed these rims after the fact.

Looks like chrome, then it's aluminum plating of some sort.

The polished aluminum is very shiny, so I can see how you would think they are chrome

They are polished aluminum (on the 88s)

Well, the flaking chrome made the tire lose its seal
Do you mean the clearcoat coming off?
This wouldn't make the tires loose a seal, unless it is in incredibly awful shape (I guess?). I don't think that there would be clearcoat (or chrome) on the inside of the rim anyway.
If so, simply clean the sealing edges, which any tire shop automatically does if there is anything on the sealing surface, when they are mounting tires.
Innertubes only use on modern day cars that I could think of would be in a situation where you have an extremely bent rim that will not let a tire hold air.

it's aluminum plating of some sort
Never heard of aluminum plating. All RX7 factory wheels are completely aluminum. Some have machined face, with a clearcoat, and earlier ones were painted flat gray (plus AE's were white).

out of all the FC rims, which are the lightest?
The 89-90 NA wheel (15"). Wait, I forgot about the 14" telephone dial wheels...but who is gonna intentionally run those? Either way, the 15" 89-90 style still might be lighter than the 14". They will suprise you the first time you pick one up.

I thought the bbs vert wheels were pretty light at like 11lbs or something. Hypntyz7, what body kit is on that red car? I like the side skirts a lot but I'm not really a fan of the front bumper.

I took the tires to Les Schwab and they said it wouldn't hold a seal due to the peeling of the coating.... shrug.

the vert bbs rims are probably the same weight as the 15" GTU/GXl rims. I have both, I should weigh them. Though, they have different size/brands of tires, so it would be an inaccurate comparison.

That is the bomex bodykit.
