s5 few slight problems

s5 few slight problems

Just a few little things on my s5 I wanna get sorted out.

1) Tacho. For some reason, the tacho doesnt work for like the first drive of the day... then pretty much the next drive a few hours after, it works fine. Sometimes when I'm cooling the car down it suddenly works again.

Can anyone point me in the right direction here? something about it being attached to the leading??

2) First start in the morning, the car idles fine for the first 15 seconds, then the cold start assist (or perhaps the elec choke) kicks in, and wont stop...it stays reving my car up to probably about 2000rpm for as long as I leave it. Then, for the next 5-10mins of driving, every time I'm idling it's trying to cut down but it wont, so it would go from probably a 1500rpm to 800rpm then bounce back up..so the car is going up, down, up, down like I'm trying to rev up my car for a drag etc... like the choke isnt going in and it's not recognising that the car is now warm. Sorry, cant really explain it better than that!!

I did have someone mention the TPS...But I'm not convinced this is the cause.

tach is controlled by the trailing coils, if it is not working chances are there is either a loose screw or bad solder joint on the tach itself, or the trailing coil is not firing correctly.

and your TPS is out of adjustment

If the TPS is out of adjustment wouldn't this ALWAYS happen??? don't know much about the TPS.

... it does stop after 10-15mins of driving, and if I stop and drive an hour after or so, it idles fine from warm up. Guessing it's also linked with the acellerated warmup system.

No, it can be just off and be an intermittent thing.

Next time it is doing it, jump out and crank the TPS adjustement screw a half turn or so and see if it stops

when my tps was out of adjustment a few 100 ohms it would jump up and down when in the warm up cycle, then clear up when it got warm

the tps is under the intercooler,on the front side of the throttle body(NOT the firewall side!) its a small black box with a plunger on it, in the FAQ there is a thread on how to properly adjust the tps

Got it. Saw the link to fc3pro.com... seems simple enough, and you described my problem atm, so I'm hoping just a half turn will fix this up.
