90, cause that's what I have. but I would vote for s5 over s4, mostly because of the 14 hp difference. Plus it looks cooler.

I agree with kmags

I like the look of s5 verts better. also, they didn't have the sub-zero starting stuff

Definitely the s5. they look awesome, don't have that stupid black strip all the way around, the front bumper is MUCH better lookin, and the engine is also a million times better.

the engine is almost identical. How on earth can you claim it a million times better when its basically the same thing with slightly higher compression?

so far more votes for the s4 ,but those voting are'nt saying why they think the s4 is better, and pls try to give an honest opinion, dont just vote for the one u have, unless you really think thats the best one, im doing this to get as many opinions as i can get because im not sure if i should keep my 88 vert or try and get a s5 vert, and ur opinions will help influence my decision. i do have other 7's, so pls don't suggest a differant 7. This is srtictly just a vert issue.
Thanks again guys

Remember he is asking what you think is best... not what you own.

I personally prefer the 88 followed by the 89. They were both the light ones (as far as verts go and in their respective series), the 88 had the better suspension, but the 89 does have slightly more HP, that helps against the increased weight, and the 88-89 don't have the lame air bags (which should be replaced now at the end of the airbags life spans and I don't like explosive devices 2 feet from my face), they don't have the funky stalk turn signals that the airbag equipped verts do.

And talk about the weight... man the 90-92 verts were the heaviest RX-7 ever made.

I'm not voting, but I;'d say an 89. The s5 looks much better to 90% of the population, and the interior is slightly updated. The series 5s tend to be slightly less troublesome and in better shape overall than an s4 of equivalent miles.

The only advantage an s4 has is the slightly less weight, and the ease of finding turbo swap parts from 87-88 turbo cars (whereas series 5 turbo parts are at a premium).

I own a 88 vert and like it but I'd go for S5 vert since S5s (coupe & vert) look better in and out. I don't mind so much about the weight & HP difference between S4 and S5 because if I seriously do I won't seek for a NA rx7 or vert.

I'll follow icemark's lead here. With the exception of the duribility of the interior and the tail lights (if you need round tail lights), I didn't think the S5 verts really had much more to offer. I love my 88 vert...oh but the quality of the convertable top never seemed to change so expect that to cause you the same pain it does to me.

I think that the engine is better becuse of the lighter, higher compression rotors, the very updated intake system, including manifolds, and a lot more. And like I said, it just looks better

89 vert because there are no air bags, they have round tail lights, and higher hp. Oh yea, hpram99 I have that "sub-zero starting stuff" on my vert.

sorry, I should specify. 90+ models. (+ non-CA models, as per icemark)

for some odd reason I still think the 89 is an s4
damn my brain.

put it his way, people still trip when they ask what year my car is. they think its newer then it actually is. this is due to the kick *** design of the 91 vert i own. the guy down the street has the 88 and it looks dated!

It's an opinion-not any major differences here. The minor styling and engineering changes are not enough to sway me. I would not base any decision on taillights or mouldings-there are plenty of new cars with black mouldings. Personally I think any S4 feels better seat of the pants due to lower weight. These cars are all old enough that year does not matter, it's how well they were cared for. Plenty of the convertibles were well cared due to price and maybe less sporting drivers.

Also almost half of the verts produced were 88's-about 8,000 of the 17,000. That's when the market started to fall out for expensive sports cars and for reasons unknown everyone wanted a SUV to drive on road.
