Question s4/s5 N/A trans swap

Are the S4 and S5 transmissions the same? I'm wanting to put an 89 N/A trans into an 88 N/A. Is there any real compatibality issues? Exhaust, driveshaft or anything?

They will interchange, youll need the front counterweight, flywheel, clutch, pressure plate from the s5. I believe the s5 has a taller overdrive/5th gear

are you SURE about that because the S4 and S5 (n/a) trannies I had laying around here at one point (the S4 is gone now which is why Im asking) but I am pretty sure that the spline count was the same for both tranny's......

So would it be easier to swap trannies or swap motors? I know that would involve changing computers and harnesses but....would it be easier than changing trannies without a lift and shop tools?

i was told that there is no difference as long as its a na and not turbo tranny. I had a s5 on my s4 motor and in ran great till i blew it then i just slap on a s4. i was told by my engine builder that the s5 is strong than the s4 and can take more hp.

I have done this swap, s5 n/a into s4 n/a. The only thing different is the crossmember. Use the crossmember from the donor tranny.
