S4 and S5 Engines

I was just doing some reading on HITman's site and it got me thinking.......how do I know that when I got my engine replaced that they actually replaced it with an S5 TII motor as opposed to an S4?

I guess my real question is this. I know that all of the peripheral components in my engine bay are S5 (ie. Boost Sensor, Rad, MAF Sensor, etc.) but is it possible to just drop an S4 block into an S5 and run it using the S5 sensors and harness or would that require some drastic changes? Keeping in mind that these guys have enough spare parts to build at least 15 FCs S4 and S5.

one major difference I know of is the omp, s4 : mechanical , s5 : electrical. and that many of the sensors are slightly different. its easier to tel in an n/a because of the tb </$0.02>

Bullshit.
I can take all of 2 seconds look at the top of a 13BT, and I know if it's a Zenki or a Kouki motor...

If the guys have spare parts laying around all over the place, you can't tell what rotors are inside...
If you're just talking short block - the EGR valve and water temp sensor are dead giveaways.

Apparently, they replaced my blown motor with a used JDM one a few years back and I'm just trying to figure out if they actually got an S5 motor or if they got an S4 and changed a few things. I know for a fact that they didn't open the motor so I'm just looking at the outside for signs of which one it is. What is it about the EGR and Water Temp sensor that gives it away...placement or do they look different?

Well, neither of the Japanese engines have an EGR. Over here, the S4's have them and S5's don't.
