are all s4 parts interchangeable? i want to buy a 1988 gxl (body's in better condition) and swap my 86 front suspension and engine in.

Yes, your good to go. But you will loose the GXL's AAS if you swap in your 86 front suspension.

Should all be the same, even the S5 crossmember etc are the same, but converts are different.

also, how do i legally register the vehicle with the new engine since its a t2 engine and not a N/A?

Just register the car as normal. In VA just because the engine changed doesn't mean it's a new car or something crazy. Only thing that will change is if someone knows rx7s spots the vin starting as JM1FC331 instead of JM1FC332
