S4 GTU Transmission Question

Ok, so I have an '88 GTU. I was told that the '88 GTU transmission was exactly the same as any other S4 TII transmission. Some how that doesn't seem right, could someone please verify this?

the GTU also has the TII's suspension, brakes, and aero kit. it also bears the TII's twill seats. driveline wise, its identical to an SE or GXL..
