my tranny grinds the gears when downshifting to 1st or 2nd. Also grinds when you put it in reverse quickly, not allowing the transmission to slow down. And sometimes even grinds when you shift from second to third but only when you do it very fast. If your easy on it then the gears don't grind. Tranny has about 175,000 miles on it right now. The way it sounds it might be the synchros but I'm not a pro mechanic so what do ya think it is.

with a 175,000 I would bet its the gear syncros. Although if u suck at shifting fast u can grind the gears as well.

 

Trust me I dont suck at shifting if u push the clutch in then shift and it still grinds when you downshift something is wrong

 

if ur talking about grinding downshifting into first. You shouldnt be doing that. If it grinds downshifting into second. Its probably gear syncros. Especially with 175,000 on the tranny.
Have you been driving it hard?

 

I bought it from my moms cousin and she noticed that it started doing it also within the last 2 years she had it. And it was mostly city miles so that could be a factor of abuse taht the tranny has taken. How much for a rebuild. I know when it is okay to downshift without grinding when downshifting to first but also does it down to second if your not carefull aslo it should do it in reverse when teh clutch is engaged and no there is nothing wrong with my clutch have new hydrualics and clutch assembly so i know its not that. The synchros should prevent you from getting it in to gear correct.
