Talking rx7conertable

i have a 88 rx7convertable and i just bought my friends exhaust from his 89 rx7 non convertable he had a straight pipe, racing beat headers and a apexi ni
well i go to these dumb *** mechanics and they tell me that i cant put that exhaust on my car because it doesnt fit and also cause i have 2 cat converters , what i want to know is can i still put it on without the cats
my friend tells me that i will get more power out of i without the cats .

do rx7 non convertables and convertables have the same exhaust setup

Verts and Coupes have different down pipes and pre-cat angles. I would think a header would fit if it was for a 5 speed, but the cat bypass pipe (besides being illegal) would probably have to be custom built.

However, they are the same from the main cat back.

BTW, the set up you are talking about will result in the 5th/6th port actuators not working on your 88, so modification will be needed there as well or use of the RB power pulse pre-silencer.
