Rx7 with T-tops

Has anyone ever made t tops for there 2nd gen? Ive never seen it and was wondering if its possible. My sunroof broke, and before I fix it I was wondering if a s5 with t-tops was possible?

sure, it's possible.. you could even go full targa if you wanted to.

but don't think it'll be as cheap as fixing your sunroof, because it won't be.

probably $1500 MINIMUM..

i'm pretty sure you can custom fit it, but one thing you should consider is the structural integrity and the fact that ttops tend to leak

Not to mention compromising the structural integrity of the car's frame...

It would mess up the structural integrity of the car and I believe it messes up the crumple zones designed in the car so it could be very dangerous and cost you more to repair damage if you get into an accident.

it would still be sweet to see a sev with a targa top
ive always thought it would look great but the stiffness of the chassis would be nothing after

i was thinking about going targa on my old car(golf gti), but it would require a bar going accross roof fo stability, my friends shop could of done it but would require a roll cage to support where the roof use to be and it was going to cost me $3500 cad. this was obviously for a proper job without having to worry about it leaking.
but all in all it was not worth it, but would of made a cool summer car

Seriously, one of you guys could use an old vert for the doors, targa section and mount hardware, seals, etc.

Someone's gotta see if it can be done, right?

if you ever decide to go ahead and get the new top make sure to post a pic or two. Though I dont think Id want it on my car, Id still like to see how it turns out, seems like it could look pretty sweet.

T-Top would radically comprimise a coupe and require serious re-enforcement, simular to the gull wing FC.

It would be much cheaper and easier, to simply take a 'vert (since it is already a Targa top as well as a convertible) and build a metal or F-glass rear section, that replaces the convertible section.

Way to think it from the other direction! Ah, yes, I see the wisdom of it now, Roto-san.

wouldnt it be nicer to just pull up the parking brake....turn a **** and push a button and then have the whole top gone, in like 10 seconds....loving the vert...you never have to get out of your seat....i have a 90 300 zx with about 70,000miles on it..beautiful car..i love it...it has t-tops..i may sound stupid but i also have a vert and the sole reason i bought it was so i could enjoy the frsh air..without taking out the t-tops and bagging and securing them in my z..which probly takes all of 1 minute or so...but if you go out and make a few stops...imagine putting your t-tops on every time and then taking them out for the next trip..those minutes become a pain and you soon find yourself driving with the t-tops on the car more often than when they are off...and not enjoying the sole reason you spent all that cash to put t-tops in your 7...sounds like you really want a vert

Ive seen a t top rx7 before. Back in Daytona Theres a Black one driven buy an older guy. first i thought it was some high end sports car but to my amazement it was a TurboII! I tryed to chase him down one day and question him about his car but i got caught in traffic. persoanly i think its one of the sickest body mods ive seen.

In total agreement, unless he wants to go faster AND have fresh air. In that case, a turbo vert would be just the ticket...

I turned my first car (1986 Isuzu Impulse) into a targa top one day many years ago with a jigsaw and some bondo. Never gave me problems after that. Doors still closed fine and the car never bowed like another guys old civic who did it around the same time but i never fabricated a top for it so it wasn't something for the rain. Everyone thought i was a little odd after that though. In retrospective I probably shouldn't have sawed the top off in the front yard.
