40 years ago, when I lived in the land of ice, I had a 60w light bulb wired in the engine bay, with an extension cord comming out of the trunk.

I've never had a problem in the cold weather. As long as the car is in decent shape, you shouldn't have any issues. Just get a good set of snow tires, and keep the salt off the body...
Also, before someone posts it, there is ABSOLUTELY NO NEED to "warm up" the car with long periods of idling. Just start the car, wait 10 seconds, then drive easily until the engine comes up to temperature.

kill it with BOOMSTICK!
Just FYI, EFI engines don't USUALLY have trouble starting and idling in the cold. As Mr. Cake said, just take it easy, nothing over 3k, until it's up to temp. Also, you will notice that there is a noticable lack of horsepower when still cold, so take it easy, don't try to push it, as this will not yield any improvement in HP. Take some back roads, the twisty-turny type preferred (cause there fun!) and don't try to push it until it is warmed up FULLY. By fully, I mean when the coolant gague gets up to where normal is (1/4 up s4, just shy of 1/2 up s5), it does not mean that the oil or internals are warmed up yet. Let it do it's thing until it wants to be let loose (you know what I mean )

well, the thing is people get it in their head that they need to "give it gas" to get their fuel injected cars started when its cold. Evidently 40 degrees makes a tremendous difference in the startability...
The main thing about the engine when its cold... and this is why people tell you to let it warm up... is that when its real cold like that it likes low rpm's and depending on your mods, keeping under 2k rpm's can be a real pita...
