RX-7 SE stereo removal

This is kind of a silly question, but does anyone know how to remove the AM/FM radio and tape deck from the 88 SE? I spent about an hour on it without trying to force it too bad, only to have my weak battery drop just enough not to start the car after the dome light had been on that long. So I've lost the patience to look this up myself, I was hoping if anyone knows of any clips or hidden screws I don't know about... Also, if anyone wants to buy the radio, its tape deck works great and the sound is pretty decent, so is the reception. I'm just putting a CD player in, is all.

Thanks, I'm new to this board. It looks like a great resource!

stereo

iv seen info on some of the helpful sites people post on the tech forum. its been listed specifically as installing or uninstalling stereo equipment.

sorry i dont remember the particular site off hand. also, a haynes manual should opffer assistance as well. try a local parts store or such and see if they have one, or ask them to order one for you.

Did you take out the air vent in the center? There are two bolts behind it that take of that hole stereo cover or whatever its called. The air vent should just pull out with no probs.

Remove the trim panel around the Logicon/climate control, including the vents. It pops up. Be careful if the plastic has seen better days or the trim around the logicon will crack.

There are two #2 phillups screws at the top of the dash there for the radio trim bezel/dash panel.

Remove the plastic panel around the shifter by poping it up. The shift **** unscrews on the 86-88 models if you have a manual trans.

Remove the ash tray and the two screws behind it.

Lift the entire trim panel out 2 or 3 inches and unplug the light for the cig lighter, and the plug on the cig lighter. You can now remove the whole radio bezel/dash trim panel.

4 screws in the dash around the ISO Can holding the radio in. Remove those. The radio will be loose now, pull it out unplugging the radio antenna and assorted plugs.

Save the ISO Can even if you throw the radio away. If you ever want to use a ISO load deck or dual DIN deck you will need the Can.

Thanks

Thanks all. Thanks to IceMark for going through the trouble to post replies to both of my threads. I haven't had a chance to work with the car yet (or look at anything online) due to some other problems... Compression problems. I think I've got that mollified for now but if anyone wants to tick off long term solutions for worn rotors, go right ahead I'm gonna try the stereo thing next time I get an afternoon...
