RX-7 buying advice

There's a RX-7 T2 that I'm looking to buy, but it is non-running. He says that the wiring harness is what needs to be replaced for it to get running. How likely is that? And where would I find one? Thanks for help.

Mazda dealer - have about $1,000 ready for payment.

Good point but is it age that has caused a wiring harness problem on this car or has it been hacked up?

Go look at the car and take a good look at that wiring harness.

Ok, firstly i don't know much about where the wiring harness actually is. If someone can point me to where to look that'd be great. But wow that thing really costs $1k?

See the big mass of wires under the hood. That...

A new one costs $1000, not a used one.

If you have no idea what the main engine wiring harness, then take it to a Mazda dealer.
They are probably going to bill you minimum 4 to 6 hours of labor (time about $100 / hour) for the job.

Yes, that part (only available from the Mazda dealer brand new) is about $1,000.

You'd probably end up with alot of issues on it. The wiring harness runs all over the car. Not a fun thing to remove, but it can be done. If you can get a good price and are prepared to do a lot of work and then find you screwed somthing up only to have to do again, then buy it.

YOu never know though, you could get lucky and find the fuel injectors are unplugged or something like that!

And if the old owner's pulling that on you, I'll bet there are other things wrong. Save $5-6K and get a good T2, or $3-$4K for an N/A. You'll spend more fixing a junker... unless you DIY on everything and spend many, many days.

Buyer's guides:

www.aaroncake.net has one too.

Very, since you pretty much have to take the engine down to the shortblock (rotor housings only) to hook up all the stuff. I've seen experienced mechanics shy away from it.
