Rust in Gas tank, removal?

Sorry if this has been covered before, I searched and mostly got post on rust removal from the body of the car.

A while ago I posted a problem with a hesitation my car was having when I would get low on fuel, (thanks to those who replied ) and as several people suggested rust was the problem. THere was so much rust sediment at the bottom of the gas tank it was completely clogging up the fuel filter on the pump.

So I bought a gas tank off of ebay, which wasn't exactly as rust free as the seller described....but anyways it does have alot less rust than my current tank mostly just some surface rust around the top where gas isn't in contact most of the time. I was wondering if there was a good way to remove this rust? I've heard about using aquarium pebbles and shaking them around in the gas tank, and also using muriatic acid. Are any of these methods effective, or how would you recommend removing the rust?
Any suggestions would be great, thanks.

Usually the best way to get rid of rust in a gas tank is to buy a foot length of heavy chain. Take the tank off the car take out the pump and sender and put the chain in after you get rid of all the gas and fumes inside. Have a friend help you shake the tank for awhile. Rinse out all of the dust and debry. Then take the tank to be resealed inside with some sort of coating. I have a feeling all this stuff is in the links that guy posted.

go to your local motorcycle shop... get 3 kits of the yamaha rust remover and get a pint of por15 (por15.com) use the yamaha rust remover, shouldnt even need rocks or chains or bolts.. then flush it, use the 2nd....3rd... then do the same with the neutralizer

from there por15 the **** out of it, it will never rust again..

That yamaha or white silicone gas tank coating works for a little while then I encounterd probs with it getting into the filters and chiping away.

Take the gas tank to a RAD shop they will boil it for you and retreat it.

the tank liner works very well if you remove all the rust. there cannot be even the tiniest bit of rust as it will keep oxidizing and make the liner bubble and then chip
