Running an external fuel pump.

Hey all, I recently found a fuel pump that will suite my needs and is rather economical from what I can tell. But the kicker is that it is not an in-tank pump. It is an external fuel pump from Bosch. The vendor says it will support 550hp so that should be well within my 400hp goal for my TII. But I don't recall seeing anyone on the forum run an external fuel pump. If anyone does run an external unit please post up with your thoughts and how you did it and how well its been holding up. Pictures would be nice aswell as I have never seen an external fuel pump setup. I am used to working with the stock FC pump setup. The pump has a 3/8" inlet and a 5/16" outlet. This pump is around 100 dollars cheaper than the Nippon Denso I am looking at right now so that would be a nice little savings that can go to other mods.

Mr.8"-o-powah: Kick *** pumps and waaaaaaaaay better than any of that garbage people are running as upgrades now.

Your in luck because I "had" that same Bosch fuel pump inline and had the stock in the tank. This setup worked great for me... At the time of this I ran a G-Force chip, 850cc's on the 2nds, and those two Bosch pumps and dyno'd 330rwhp @ 15psi w/ Stock turbo and IC ...No BS! I also ran a 12.0 @ 116mph.

I eventually bought a Wolf EMS stand alone, T60 turbo, 1680's x 4, etc. and added the Bosch intank version and still ran the inline, but it was overkill and the fuel pressure was harder to dial in so I ditch the inline...

I installed mine in the engine compartment on the driverside shock tower using a C-clamp from a PAR-36 stage light there cast material and very durable and simply splice into the return and before and after the fuel rail....easy as pie baby!! and a huge upgrade...

Will it take you to 400hp? not exactly sure, but youll be close...100.00 was cheap

Here is were I got mine: www.tpis.com

Well this one is advertised for 550hp and its 150 dollars from www.mazdadragracing.com I think 150hp safety margin is great. Would I HAVE TO keep the intank stock pump though?

Hi again

No you could get an intank OR you could buy a sock off a GM style pump install it on the inline pump and run it in the tank...those are cheap and fairly easy to do....just a thought...If your stock pump is still good then you should be fine really

anything else, just let me know

So the GM sock(strainer filter I presume) has to be modified or can it just be bolted on so to speak? I would rathe ronly have one pump to worry about than two.

right, if you just want to use the inline (in the tank) you'll have to buy that sock.. I would just run that pump inline ...There really strong pumps and made a huge difference. I gave that whole fuel pump and line assembly that I made to my firend and I think its just sitting....I shold get that back
