RPM limiter
Hello, i was just wondering, at how much RPM does the limiter kick in, and is there a way to make it happen a little later. If so, how far can you go with a stock 13b that just had a rebuild. I have seen rotary's reaching 11000 rpm, but i'm kinda sure they were not completely stock ;-)
PS: i did my best in finding this thread, but no luck. Sorry if it's a double!
about myself: I have had a rx7 with leaking engine for 2 months untill it failed for it's MODT. With me being a very poor student at that time, it was the end. Now, more then a year later my financial situation has changed, and i was so lucky to find that very same car for sale again, with a disasembled engine, and all the parts for a rebuild. Now i got my car back, and have plans for rebuilding the engine with help from a friend of mine. Driving the car has been a while ago, so i cannot remember the RPM limit correctly. 7400 mabey?

S4's have it at 7500 or so IIRC and S5's have it at about 8500 AFAIK but all of our tachs are off a bit so its a little different when you're looking at it.
If you have a car that can make power above stock redline you probably shouldn't be using the stock ECU so you shouldn't have any trouble with rev limiters. If this sentence confused you or is above your head then you probably don't want to be playing above redline.

Ah, thank you so much for this excellent and fast respond. this explained my question perfectly. So the limiter is indeed in the stock ECU i'm using... It probably sounds realy lame, but i have a great love for engines that can rev. Since my engine is completely disensembled at this moment, are there any performance upgrades that i realy should think about doing right now besides porting?

well if you want to be able to go into high RPM's you want a port that can flow at high rpm's. You also will want to have the rotating assembly balanced for the rpm's you will be going to, and probably have the rotors clearanced so your irons don't get smacked up by the side faces.
