RP Exhaust

I'm thinking of buying a RP Exhuast system in the coming weeks. I was wondering if you guys think this is a good system, or if I should get a different kind. Also If I was to get the RP Exhuast system, how much of a horsepower increase will I get.

I just bought one myself (in addition to a Bonez SuperFlo cat). I am planning to install it this weekend. It looks similar to the stock system in size, but its supposed to flow much better.

I can't answer anything about horsepower, but I'm expecting the combination of the two (cat and RP exhaust), plus the new intake and stuff I'm putting on, to be a very noticeable difference, particularly compared to the clogged, rusted-out exhaust system I have now!

I know KiyoKix on this forum is also running the same combination and apparently really likes it. His opinion was what convinced me to buy mine. Anyway, it looks pretty good if you don't mind flat black mufflers instead of shiny ones like Racing Beat or HKS. I couldn't really afford the others so I went with this setup, and I think I'm going to like it!

Hope this helps....

Please let us know what your impressions are of the exhaust once you get it on that car.

Loudness, construction (how well it all fits), power increase (if any)...and things like that.

Icemark -> Will do. In fact, if I have the presence of mind, I may do a write up with pictures and all. I know it should be a pretty straightforward process but who knows who may be interested in the writeup.

I haven't dynoed my car though (no $$ for that!), so I can't provide before/after comparisons. But if somebody in the ATL area will comp my dyno runs I'll be glad to do it!

Its all going on at once, so we'll see what the whole kit does to the car.

Okay, regarding my currently ongoing install of the new stuff for my car....

I've been having a bitch of a time getting the exhaust manifold insulators off. Now, this is not usually required to install a cat-back (obviously) but my exhaust manifold insulator/shield and absorber are completely busted, rusted, and rattling around. Both of these ARE important (unlike the heatshields on the bottom of the exhaust system). So, without hijacking this thread, I'll just say that my personal write-up and information on the RP Catback in question will have to wait for a few more days while I try to get a few broken bolts out of their rusted holes. Grrr....

I'll get back to both of you ASAP when I actually install the thing.

I have the RP50 cat-back and the Bonez double cat. I first tested it the cat-back, keeping the stock cats. I notice a BIG increase in top end on WOT. I now installed the double cats...and it feels smoother...cant really explain it.

I have an extra RP50 cat back w/ a y-pipe in my garage. Just need the gaskets and bolts....I used it for about 20k...I thought the mufflers were burnt out, but I found out is was my original cat. It is not pretty, but it will do the job.....

Anyone local in the Sacramento area or S.F. bay area???

I will let that one go for $80......

not to put a "damper" on things, but i had the rp50mm catback with a bonez highflow cat on my car, nice flow improvement and sounded really nice from outside the car,but it was really "drony"inside the car.i have a full dual system now,and interior sound levels are less[outside is another story].i think they use pretty thin piping, wich is part of the problem.just my expierience.

Ah...a header is too loud for me with a 'vert.

And I really don't like my car so loud that all the neighbors point and wish I didn't live on my street (like they do with the neighbor that rides a Harley).

I know what you mean (speacially between 3K-4K rpms), I have the same "situation" on my FC; however I have a HKS catbak, RB header & pre silencer. I said situation instead of problem, since the cure is to either downshift or accelerate.

I installed this setup on my vert. Installed the Bonez hi-flo cat and the RP cat back at the same time. Very nice power improvement. But, the noise inside the car I couldn't take. It has a very deep reasonance from about 2500 to 3500 RPM's. Sounds really good outside though. I have replace the RP cat back with an almost factory cat back and like the silence. Maintained the Bonez power-flo cat. I believe most of the power gain was achieved by changing the plugged cats. Just my opinion. I am a older than most and noise was not my objective.

I posed this question on another thread but thought I'd revisit it here. I'm rehabbing an 88 vert and am thinking of replacing the stock exhaust. A few extra HP would be nice but I don't want to wake up my neighbors. Any suggestions?

Gentlemen... there is an option (in your preferences I believe) that will permit you to know when a PM has been sent via either email or a pop-up box on the site. I think there are some people here who prefer that you PM "silently" so-to-speak, and allow these notifications to do their magic. I'm not personally too peevish about this, but I want to save you wrath later...

To add to this discussion, I will be doing the promised modifications later tomorrow (Saturday) if God, weather, time, and my overall happiness with my car permits. I will attempt to capture the sound of the vehicle with the said exhaust both inside the car and outside, and may (again, time and other factors permitting) record the same thing with the stock system on it for comparison. If you have any special requests regarding the writeup or recording, please make them ASAP so I can get them before I begin work. This should provide some further information for those interested.
