rough idle on 87 tII

i just bought this car
1987 turbo II 87000 original miles
been sitting for about 6 months
runs rich and idles rough
when you kick the air on it dies wont idle at all
sounds like it has a miss at idle
what kind of things should i look for that cause
these problems in rotaries?
also:
what is the max street combo for a car like this ?
turbo/
engine rebuild /
fuel /
intercooler/
ignition/
need some help with this one i am normally accustomed
to piston engines
thanks!

Sounds like you might have a seal stuck if it has been sitting for awhile. Try to add some Marvel Mystery oil in through the upper plugs and turn over the engine while the EGI fuse is pulled. The fuse box for that is located on the side of the drivers side front strut tower. Then let the oil set in there for awhile and try it then. If it still is there, try to drive the car at a fairly high RPM on the road and see if it won't come loose that way. The other option is to go to Mazda and get it compression tested to make sure the motor is ok.

Not sure what exactly you mean by street combo. What are the best things to do for a street driven car? First and foremost is to get the car running correctly so that when you decide to mod the car later, the mods won't tear up your car.

Take a look at my website. I have the factory service manual online for everyone's use. It is in PDF format. That is the rotary bible to most people that drive rotaries.

Welcome to the family

lats night i ran it for about 15 min
got the boost up
it feels pretty good just banging though the gears
nice sweet spot in 3rd between 45-75/80 mph
it idles about 850rpm w/no air on
you kick the a/c it dies.
the girl i bought it from said she cant remember ever changing
plug cap rotor or wires
my first thought was bad gas. the car has been sitting awhile
it sound like stumble/miss at idle
(this is the only way i can relate it to you with no rotor engine
experience)
there seems to be no noticable stumble when driving
and i have no ref point as far as performance goes.
it ran ok ,i expected more out of it than my run last night
though.
this engine should idle smooth right?
not like a v8 w/ a large cam ?
i was thinking vacuum leak
or plugs /rotor/wires
and or timimg?
i only paid 1500 for it so if i have to put some money in it
i dont mind.also put some new gas in 93 oct

Dies huh?

ok have you taken your throttle body off and cleaned her down with some b-12 yet if it idles at 850 without a/c on thats about normal speed 750 is stock setting i believe just dies ? doesnt struggle to stay running ? just blam huh? .hhmmm a/c cools well out on the road ?,have you pressure tested the a/c system if theres too much freon in the system the headpressure could be too high but that sounds like a lil far fetched for me really think its that. if it cools well out on the road ...id clean it up and go thru the idle setup again by the book my throttle body was so dirty on the air screw i couldnt move it untill i got it cleaned out idles like a champ now

Welcome! I think your on the right track. Get in new gas, replace the fuel filter, replace the plugs. Change the oil. These cars hate to sit, they need to be run & ran hard! Does it have the stock Cats? Sometimes they can clog, How is it boosting? Good luck & keep us posted!

Go to fc3s.org and download the factory manual in specific section 4B. It deals with setting the idle and fuel related things. The manual can be had at http://www.iluvmyrx7.com. I think you have a vac leak, the rpm is set too high, and possibly the variable resistor has been played with. Please download section 4B. Also the initial set coupler should be jumpered when setting the idle or messing with the BAC.

hey all im back!
just finished changing oil /filter
and the job of intercooler/upper manifold /throttle body removal
b-12 rocks
throttle body was not as dirty as expected ,sprayed it down
clean b-12 madeit look perfect inside.thanks!
putting the tb/upper man back on is no small job
whats the deal w/ the coolant line that runs under the tb and to the back?!? could they make that thing any shorter?
i finally got fed up w/ it and fabed a new slightly longer one.
need to readjust the throttle linkage though , its idling about
1100 at the moment.
fired up and ran first try ,damn i love it when that happens.
took it out for a short drive
boost and throttle response is much improved
BUT the idle /stumble at idle is still there.
i am thinking at this point bac has to be.
even at 1100-1200 r's when i kicked the a/c on it dropped to nothing then caught itself and jumped to about 850/900
i think my tach is not reading correctly any ideas?
still have plugs/ wires and fuel filter.thats for next weekend !!
didnt see vac hoses off maybe a pluged injector?
thanks for the help !
any ideas on any of the other probs please post!!

umm.. My engine has a lot of the stock thingies (that's a technical term) taken off... and I have no AC... but isn't there some valve or something that bumps the idle up a little when the ac is turned on? Maybe that is bad on yours...

(I'm a moron!)
