Rotor Loyalty, Rice, or just plain *GHEY*
I'm planning to put 2 3" deep midbass drivers in my front doors. To doso I'm going to need to make speaker pods. My question is, should I make the pods in circles, or in a rounded rotor-like triangular design??
Sorry, Jimmy and I were bitching at eachother, and I thought I'd just ask you guys.

I think it'd look cool, as long as it looks like it belongs- something that you or other rotorphiles might notice as being special, but other wise it'd just look like a well done asthetically pleasing part of yoru interior.
thats the way i feel about exterior rice too-it becomes rice when it's OBVIOUS that it's been tacked onto the car, and doesnt fit into the overall asthetic scheme of the car.

I just think the rotor shaped speaker buildout wouldn't fit the door. If you try and make every contour on the car resemble a damn rotor you end up with the bodystyle of the rx-8.... (ok, had to get that jab in there)
I was the one who enlightend colby about interior matching vinyl and getting it to blend in. I've had full lower door pods that people mistook for stock and those were filled with 8" midbasses. (as well as a 4" and tweets)
Again, I just really don't think the rotor shape is gonna visually work.

boat upholstery shops are usually the places to go for the best selection of vinyl. fabric places are second in the list and usually have some hotties working in them.
You really need to get a color sample to bring with you or you'll be making several trips. Learned that from experience. Even when you've done the same color on 8 different cars there's always something a bit off if you don't bring a piece in with you. And if thats not possible then get lots of samples. They'll cut you off a corner to bring home if need be.

Most definately don't make it stand out too much (like it was said above...yellow is NOT your friend). I think it'd look nice though I'm down with the rotor styling scheme.

I usually have pretty conservative taste regarding modifications like this, but I think if you really take your time with the design of the rotor, getting the shape authentic etc., especially planning out what it should look like before hand, then it would be good. I personally still wouldn't put them in my car.
Overall the idea isn't rice, it's homage. That's a good thing, look it up if you but knew it.
