Rotor Housing Question
Yea trying to rebuild an NA 13B and I have a question about the rotor housings. There is a groove worn into the outer edges of the housing at the point where the apex seals meet the side seals. I was wondering if it was okay to use these housings. I've already aquired about three sets of rotor housings with the same problem...including a set that came out of a running car that had a blown water seal. Which I drove off the trailer.
Any info would help. Thanks

Post pictures of the housings.
Or, check the FSM. There is a spec that tells you how deep and wide a groove is acceptable.
Off the top of my head, it's something like 1/8" of groove/chrome flaking is OK. But verify this with the FSM first.
If you are rebuilding engines, you MUST have a copy of the FSM.
The Factory Service Manual can be found in the FAQ For FC thread. It contains all this information and more, and is an essential tool for any sort of service work that needs to be performed on these cars.
Additionally, the Haynes service manual for the 1986 thru 1991 RX-7 (both turbo and NA) can be found at most local auto parts stores or purchased from any good bookstore (ISBN number 1 56392 007 7). It is only about $25 and is a great quick reference for things like this. Not only does it contain most of the information in the FSM condensed into an easy to read format, but it includes full wiring diagrams as well.
These manuals will answer 99% of service related questions for the car and if you intend to do your own repair work, you will need at least one of them. Preferably both, since the FSM is a free download.

I have the hanes manual And I already checked the tolerances unfortunately the only set that will work is out of the running car....but the water jackets are chipped pretty bad so I don't think they'll work. And so far I haven't found a new set of housings for less than $650 a peice and I need both... I can get a JDM engine and trans for the same price....I think I may go that route...does anyone know if a NA driveshaft will work with a turbo trans?
Thanks,
Seph
