man, that sucks if you're having a hard time with the RA kit- I just got mine & doin the rebuild in 3 weeks...you talking about the orange teflon encapsulated rings? they keep popping out? I don't think a little hylomar getting "loose" will hurt anything once the torquing's done, but if that combustion seal pops out, that's a problem...

You will most probably need to 'stretch' the seal a bit, to make it a little bit longer.

Thats what I had to do. (not with R.A seals though, I used stockers)

Too keep them in place after you've stretched them to the right length (careful, don't make them any longer than they need to be........) then I used a bit of silicone to hold them in place... Other people use vaseline (sp?) with very good results, which is what I will be using next time I think.

I don't know about stretching them, WhiteFC- unlike the stock seals with teflon on only 1 side (?), these seals are totally encased in teflon...I haven't played with mine much yet, but it seems to me if you try to stretch 'em you might crack/ split that teflon...I dunno??? Wouldn't Halomar hold the seal in place better than Vaseline?

Not sure, havn't used the R.A o-rings yet, but I have heard of people stretching them to make them fit properly.

When I say stretch, I don't mean alot, you only need to lengthen it a _tiny_ bit.

But i'm not sure, i'll let someone else correct me if I'm wrong. IIRC 88IntegraLs (if I spelt that right??) used R.A o-rings in his rebuild and had to stretch them to make them fit. ....i think..

And you might well be right about halomyar, however I have never used it. I used a good bit of silicone on mine, no water leaks here on this rebuild yet (and I don't expect any )

Yes, you do HAVE to stretch the RA/mcmaster-carr o-rings to get them to fit. You shouldnt ever have to stretch stockers, though I have found a set or 2 that were too small.

Hylomar anywhere in the engine won't cause a problem...just don't make a habit of it. The stuff burns off within seconds of startup.

ill be puttin in my ra rings in tomorrow, we'll see if i gotta stretch em...doesn't sound like something i want to do. Seems to me if you stretch it your making it weak in one spot...oh well probably doesn't make a difference

a test fit i did on my housings with my RA seals got them the sit fine without any hylomar. this might be because theve been sitting slightly compressed in the box and have taken on almost the exact shape of the housings though. Try putting them in something about 4 inches wide for a few days,.. also RA mentions compressing them with a book overnight?
