Question Rotaries and Synthetic Blend Oil

If ANYONE would know the answer to this question I figure the RX-7 Gurus on this forum would! I have seen these "Synthetic Blend" motor oils out "there" and I am curious. Can these blends be used in my '88 TII? I KNOW your NOT supposed to use synthetics but I believe that this stuff is like a 50% "dino oil" and 50% synthetic (please correct me if I am in error). So I would THINK that this would be the BEST of BOTH worlds right? I mean logicaly, you still DO have regular oil PLUS you have all the superior qualities of the synthetic. Has anyone on here TRIED using this oil? I have only seen Quaker State brand out there (Castrol fan myself) but I'm sure that others manufacture this also. So PLEASE, if anyone could shed some light on this let me know. THANKS!!!!!

I've never had any problems with regular dino oil.&nbsp Why bother with synthetic-anything?&nbsp I've used both Castrol GTX 20W50 and Shell Rotella T 15W40 with no obvious oil related problems in my '87 Turbo II 13BT engine.&nbsp I do not baby my car either.&nbsp If you stick with name brand dino oil and recommended 3,000 miles oil changes, there is no reason to worry about your oil.&nbsp I have seen bad things with synthetic oils (specifically Amsoil 20W50) that left nasty carbon deposits on the rotor housings; synths don't burn well in the combustion chamber, so they leave more than normal deposits.&nbsp If you're still running the stock oil injection, do NOT use synthetics.

Rotary Performance recommends running premix along with synthetic in the sump. They say the premix helps the synth oil burn.

Hey guys thanks for the advice! And after some thought on what you said there RETed, I think that I will just stick with the "good ole' dino oil". Guess I was hoping that there would be some benefit to using a synthetic in my motor since it does have 95k miles on it. Then again on some other guys post, someone replied "use what is specified for YOU car". Makes sense! As far as "pre-mix" goes, excellent advice. However unlike some of the more "enthusiastic" racer-types on this forum I am pretty much stock except for the HKS exhaust. But if I WERE to do more mods (which I DO plan to do), I would definitly do the pre-mix thing. So thank you all for the words of wisdom and now it is off to Advanced Auto Parts for a case of good ole' Castrol!

Yip, block the oil injection, ditch the OMP, 5w-50 Mobil 1 in the sump and premix in the tank
