Great job on the conversion! Your FC looks awesome...

I actually have an 89 FC Turbo II (JDM and RHD) that I imported from Japan last year. Because it's RHD and the VIN# is a Japanese one, my insurance company charges me double for my policy just because of the RHD issue. I've been debating on buying an FC shell (LHD) and porting over the parts or just the vin #'s.. but something tells me that legally I'm not supposed to do this. :dunno: Doing so would save me $1500/year on my insurance! Any recommendations?

Serge

you could cut out the VIN's from a junk yard car. and you would need the title from them also. and weld in all the VIN's into your RHD drive and as long as you have that title, it would like like you just converted over. the DMV would never know the difference. but you have to make sure you get that title and that car gets cruched. or else you could have some legal problems on your hand. its kinda like automobile identity theft...

but i dont know about Canada laws... thats what you could do here. Plus in Florida, theres absolutley no inspections what so ever.

Do yourself a favor, skip the ArmorAll and use Vaseline (actually, generic unscented petroleum jelly works best).

starting on some of the body issues. there was only two rust areas that needed attending to.

1. where the stock wing bolts to the rear.
2. the sunroof area.

since im never going back to the stock wing. Im patching all the holes and rust spots with new metal and then grinding it all flat. there will be 2 tiny holes at the front of the RE wing to hold it down. and the rest of it will be held down with very strong double sided tape. just like some people do there side skirts...

I had to remove the entire sun roof asembly today because the thing was rusted out very badly in one area. after it came down, damn near my whole interior was filled with metal bits broken down from rust. it isnt that bad everywhere. just one main area was REAL bad. but a new sun roof assembly is needed. and some patching needed on the roof too...

sen2two 09-03-09 03:54 AM

rust cut out. new metal ready to go in...

Tiggin away. I was going to just MIG it in. would of been much much quicker. but these leave much smaller welds, so its easier for me to grind away. i would much rather spend my time welding than grinding.

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...ingpatches.jpg

all holes shut and patches welded in. it was welding like shit. i didnt clean the metal well enough and my argon was getting low. so i wasnt getting the gas coverage i needed... but its getting grinded down anyways...

dont mind the belt. its a thing between a few friends and family. who ever is the "champ" at the time, holds the belt. My brother just challanged my in his turbo 86 corolla. i'll remain champ though...lol

heres a shot of some of the crap that was floating around up there before it all came down... made a nice mess. theres this spot one about 8 inches to the right of it. and also in the corner. gotta do some metal work here and find a new assembly... or just weld the damn sun roof in...lol

http://i282.photobucket.com/albums/k...unroofrust.jpg

sen2two 09-03-09 04:01 PM

heres a pic of the junk sun roof assembly...

sucks though. cause its just that one area. the rest of it looks brand new.

sen2two 09-03-09 04:08 PM

i grinded down all the welds for the wing and threw some primer on it. then used scotch (3M) super duty double sided tape to secure most of it down. it has one screw at each front end of the wind to secure the front down.

i didnt take any pics becuase the wing dosnt look any different now installed than it did before...

now on to the sun roof problem. i think i might just leave the assembly out and make some small mounts for it to bolt down from the inside. i would save a bunch of weight. and if i wanted some sunlight and air from the roof. i could quickly lossen the nuts and remove it. like T tops...

unless someone has a better idea?

well, at the time i started this i was working overnight from 11pm to 7am and going to school from 7:20am to 3pm. and i managed to get the actual RHD part comlpete in about 2 weeks. took another month or so to get everything else in and working like wheels, suspension, brakes, lights, all wiring, ect. ect. ect... the list goes on and on. and then about another month doing little things like adding the water/meth kit. porting the wastegate and intake manifold. messing with little things here and there...

if you have a front clip sitting there and your car ready to go. you could have it running and driving in under 2 weeks. but you have to be dedicated. i worked on my car 7 days a week to get it done... literally.

sen2two 09-06-09 04:32 AM

thanks for the props peoples... makes the hard work worth it. for real.

ramello 09-06-09 12:11 PM

looks really good man
nice to see someone investing the time to do nice things
makes me excited to get back to work on my car now that summer is over!

on a side note i have a spare sun roof assembly rust free if your in need.

This was something totally new and created new challanges for me to learn upon. Cars (mainly Rx7's) is my hobby. Its what i do. I am literally in my garage working on something 7 days a week year round.

plus, its just dope! you gotta see the looks people give you. lol... and my mom has a skyline (no bullshit), so i have already had a lot of RHD seat time. so its easy for me to switch over driving styles...

Plus it's JDM as hell! Makes it more rare and the looks gained is well worth it. Also, being a RHD owner myself, I actually find it easier to shift with my left hand over my right, feels more natural for some reason...Awesome job man, clean install!:ylsuper:

good job and bad ass, but fuck thats a lot of work and time. props

Excellent craftsmanship,keep it up dude.:)

Hypertek: GT-X or GT-R badges would be better as the infini IV was never offered in white. That is if the OP was planning on keeping it white. I say check out corksport like stated above and you should be able to get the Savanna and GT-X or GT-R decals!

Props on doing this swap! You did a great job on it and looks clean as hell! Props on posting pictures of the process as well. Would love to see some more pics as you get more finished on it. Very nice and thanks for sharing!

very nice work. i like it. i drove my first rhd car today, a r32 skyline, pretty funny how much attention rhd gets

sen2two 09-08-09 03:23 AM

My mother has a R33 Skyline. its easier than people think to make the RHD switch...

I had an older guy ask me "whats that, is it European" ....lol

solareon 09-08-09 05:32 AM

very nice work. Always good to see people bust out a TIG
