NY Rewired fuel pump = limp mode?

I hav a 1991 s5 turbo swapped rx7. I recently rewired my fuel pump with the guide on 1300.com except I left out the resistor relay. I went out for a run and I hit boost about 2 psi and 3500 rpm an it felt like I hit a wall kind of like the omp limp mode. It felt like a full on limp mode. I then went back rewired it back to stock. The "limp mode" went away. I then rewired it back switched up the ground and a few other things and "limp mode" again. So I went on to rewire the resistor to the back and the car ran just like on stock wiring. I'm beyond stumped any help is appreciated
