reusable housings? (I cleaned them up now)

I still think these look trashed, based on my un trained eye... It just looks like the water jackets and whatnot around the outside of the housings are covered in rust..

Experts???? Im not sure if I should even attempt to put this thing back togeather or just find another block to start from.. Im almost tempted with a import (jspec as some call it) S5 (gamble I know) I would rather rebuild this block if its useable obvously...

Thanks,
-Brian

looks like junk, the chrome flaking is a bit wide in spots and would lose a bit of compression over those areas. the seal surfaces look a bit dirty to clean up, IMO they may be usable but the results would not be satisfactory to most engine builders.

I wouldn't use them and run risk of tending to a lower compression motor in the long run, having to rebuild again..

Best bet is to either find a set of good housings, or to get a whole other core (which can be a gamble as well)

I purchased two j-specs to use for cores, and one was perfect, as if it was freshly rebuild (probably shouldn't have torn it apart!).. But the other one had a blown rear rotor and housing due to apex seal failure. I paid near to nothing for the two motors, and the company stated the second motor had low compression before i bought them, i just got a good deal and wanted the second one for parts.. It's all about the company you use to get these motors..

JFYI - the website is www.japanstarmotor.com

p.s. their website doesn't list the 13BT on it, you will have to email them directly.

The edge wear and chatter marks look normal for a high mileage housing, but to me the really bad spots are the corrosion areas in the water passages- they look nasty

Damn, well thats too bad. I was hoping for an easy buy some seals slap it back togeather learning experience... That would be too easy wouldn't it.

Thanks for all the responses... the rest of the motor looks pretty rusted etc. Since it sat for 2 years with a coolant seal leak im not suprised...
