Reupholster questions?

I'm planning on reupholstering the leather seats this winter.
Has anyone done this?

Can anyone make any recommendation as to where to get the leather kit?

Yep. They say they're in Houston, but the package comes straight from china. I got these for my vert, they're real leather, and REALLY nice!

Really? I assumed since these guys are half the price of other online sources that the leather would be cheap and fitment would be off. Got any pics?

If you're considering getting these, I can't overstress the need for legit hog ring pliers and hog rings. Harbor freight ain't gonna cut it for this job, guys.

I've bought replacement leather seat covers from those guys for my Fiat. Fit was very good. And my Harbor Freight Hog Ring pliers worked fine.

Calling bullshit. Unless 1) you are using gigantic hog rings, which are wrong, I don't care how well they work. Or 2) they quit making whatever ones you bought. Or 3) they came out with a new version.

I know this because I bought and tried them. The ones they sell are meant to work with chain link fences... They're waaaaaay too big to fit in seat creases.

So the first pic is the one of them installed in my vert, the 2nd is the legit pliers (with the right sized hog ring in the jaws), the 3rd is the HF pliers.

If you guys don't feel like doing the work, I'll sell my seats for 300 plus shipping (they have about 7 hours of use since installation), they're vert seats, headrest speakers still work. Pretty sure they're almost the same as the TII seats... just with headrest speakers.

The one I bought them from has nothing for sale anymore - and hasn't sold anything since April of '12. Likely just set up another user name, there were a good few negative feedbacks right before his last sale.

The pliers I bought at Harbor Freight looks like the one in your second picture but without the plastic handle covers.

I've installed new skins on at least a half dozen seats using them over the last few years.

You know what Tui, I had a Fiat 126 when we lived in Italy. The hf pliers might have been fine on that, because it seems like those seat covers were only hogring'ed on the bottom, underneath the seat, with lots of room to work.

The RX7 seats are quite the pain in the *** because of the large number of seams that are hogring'ed to the foam (the bars in the foam). It really isn't difficult, but kinda frustrating, and kinda time consuming.

Mine is a 124 Spyder. Best design convertible top ever.

I've helped a friend do his 2nd Gen seats. So I know what you mean. But if you take notes where the hog rings came off when you take off the old skins, easy money.
