What all is involved in doing this?

Are you trying to do this yourself? If the flywheel looks pretty good with no pitting or deep marks, I would suggest using some emory paper to clean it up. Most time though, you have to take it to a shop and have them turn material off of the flywheel surface. This serves to remove the pitting and give a smooth, clean surface for the clutch disc to bite onto.
