Resurfacing the flywheel?

Is this a good idea or even necessary? I am rebuilding my engine now and have a flywheel from a J-spec engine that I bought so I don't know it's history. What does this cost?

Not such a bad idea if you do not know how much it was beat on. If there are deep grooves in the flywheel or bumpy areas, it is more definately recommended to get it resurfaced. Most any machine shop can do it for you. Make sure you specify that the flywheel is "two-step," meaning that whatever they take off the inside, they have to take off of the "ears" too. Usually pretty cheap... I would say $30-45

Becasue its a two step, its a bit more expensive. I pay 25.00 each time. I have heard some paying as much as 50.00. I believe its still worth it but would not pay that much.
