Replacing front suspension
Some of you know from my other thread that my '89 GTU had a little mishap with a curb the other night. I took it to a shop and they quoted me $1800.00 on moday morning, I told him to go ahead and order the parts since they are 5 days out. And he told me I would not find the parts any soonner. Well 1800 bucks is alot and by doing it myself I save 500 + just in labor so I really want to do it myself
I found all the parts I need at one place here in oregon about 15 miles away All I need to know is how hard would it be for me to replace all these parts:
left lower control arm
left strut
left upper strut mount
left sway bar end link
engine craddle
the only thing I am really worried about is the engine craddle becase I have no idea how hard it is going to be for me to remove it (I don't have to pull the engine do I?)
Another problem is that I do not have access to a shop or a garage so I have to do it at a friends house. Still looking for that friend BTW
I can pick all these parts up for ~$350 and I can get the tools (jacks, jack stands, ratchets, wrenches, coil compresser) is there anything else special I need?
All I need is a little know how and a place to work on it. so what do you guys think I should do fix it my slef for less than $500.00 and maybe even do some upgrades or blow $1800.00 and forget upgrades for a long *** time
please give me your suggestions and a little know how if you have any. I would love to do this myself but I don't wanna get into something that I cannot do.
Ohh BTW I would take it back to the shop for realignment when I was done
thanks alot guys
sorry about the length

What place in Oregon? Mazda/Toyota Recyling in Troutdale? They have TONS of used parts. Thats where I replaced my intake manifold, and got a used tranny from, they almost for sure would have all those suspension parts for probably a LOT cheaper than $1800. Replacing the strut, upper strut mount, and sway bar end link will be easy. I don't even know what the engine cradle is. Lower control arm shouldn't be that hard either, as long as you have the tools for the job. Where in Oregon do you live? I live just outside of Portland. If you want help on your car, let me know. I have TONS of tools. Call Mazda Toyota Recyling if you havent already. They are just about 15 miles down I-84E from Portland. http://www.maztoy.com/
