hey so i got new speakers to replace my old speakers but i dont know how to take off the door panels can anyone show me a thread or tell me how? thanks

Hey, there are a few screws

1. screw where the latch is, take off the plastic carefully, old plastic cracks easily
2. 3 screws under armrest
3. 1 screw upper corner by mirror
4. 1 screw lower corner by light
5. pull off carefully plastic that is opposite of mirror
6. pull panel carefully of door with a panel popper.

that should be about it if i remember correctly,

are your new speakers LOW profile cones.. do a test fit and try to lower your windows with the new ones in place..

At the top of the door panel where it rounds off and becomes flat by the window there is a plastic plug which is attached to the underside of the panel right near the sideview mirror. This plug drops down into a hole so when everything is removed the panel will not just slide out but is more of a pull up or tilt the panel to clear the plug out of the hole and then the panel will slide off (in the direction of the back wheel). Take into account this is on an S4 which may differ from the S5.

This may sound stupid but I thought you were kidding at first. I've never seen a FC with speakers in the doors. Is it a S5 thing ? My 86 NA and both my 87 TII's have them under the dash.

some s4 cars had door speakers as well. only the ones with a factory CD player could have it I believe. I knew a guy with a fully loaded 88 T2 that had cd player and door speakers.

And in two different locations as well. S5 hardtops had them above the armrest, and the later verts had them near your knee.

My S5 hardtop has them where the door pockets are. My S4 vert has them above the armrest.

On mine they're at the very front lower corner.

Seriously though, if you can't figure out how to take off the door panel, maybe working on your own car isn't such a good idea. I've had tons of experiences when I've had to just figure out how to put something together or take it apart in order to work on my car, things way more difficult than a door panel. If I had to consult the net every time I'd never have finished.

This is obviously his first crack at it and for most people, it is better to be safe then sorry. Were you "always" able to glide through things on your first attempt when working on an item whether it was working on a car or not and if it was indeed your first time would you not be better off to ask questions beforehand and be prepared. The poster came to this board to seek advice as opposed to hearing how other people are infinitely better than him and he is for all intensive purposes waisting his time. Please grow up and show some modicum of consideration next time.

No it didn't always go perfectly on the first attempt, but I managed to get it to work every time. I'm just saying, taking a door panel off is pretty easy to figure out and is a very straightforward procedure, and if they're so unsure of themselves then that's not a good sign. This is also the sort of thing that's outlined in the sort of reference materials that they should have, like the FSM or some other type of manual. I wasn't rude, I didn't call them names, insult them, or anything like that, I just said that maybe they should examine how wise it was to work on the car if such a thing requires asking us. Encouraging someone to do something that they're not cut out to do isn't being considerate, it's being dillusional. Giving good advice is telling them what's right, not whatever it is that they want to hear. Not everyone's cut out to be a home mechanic. I'm not saying that they will be or won't be, but it's worth considering that it may not be a path worth going down.

I'm good at working on cars and many other things, but I'm completely and utterly hopeless at doing other things, I know it, admit it and I don't attempt it.

That's pretty cool. I guess you do learn something new and different every day. I'm gonna have to keep my eye out now for an FC with speakers in the doors.

To the OP, they are easy to get off and don't sweat it. The second post in this thread is about all you need to know to pull them off.
