Thumbs up Replacement of Oil Thermo Pellet w/ dummy II

I finally replaced the pellet with Mazdatrix' plug #11. Where the A/C belt used to be, both my mechanic and I used, what appeared to be, a vice-crips with a bike chain connected on both ends. This was wrapped around the eccentric pulley and than tightened to reinforce It from moving. From their, I had the clutch pedal wedged, whether It did anything or not, and than proceeded to take It out with a 19mm long *** wrench.

I couldnt break the bond so my mechanic assisted me. I couldn't beleive the hold this friggen bolt had. Right before me, I'm seeing my motor rock back and forth. Sure enough the bolt popped off and I did the swap, but some blue locktite on with some RTV- done.

Believe me, don't underestimate this bond. As I heard before, "the factory must have put a keg of locktite on.

I spent all this time writing about the procedure rather than the results. As I suspected It to be my Oil Pressure readings are fully restored. Although the stock gauges are nothing to fully go by, In terms of accuracy, but It Is good to know my rotors are getting the much deserved oil It should be getting!

Well, yes It no doubt worked. But my ****en mechanic managed to bend the lip of the main pulley where the A/C belt was before. But with quick observation he was on his way to begging for mercy. I said to him " hey what the f**** are you doing? You must of got the Impression you were working on a Civic. Now fix It!" He then looked up and I quickly smiled. But one thing Is for sure he knew that I take pride In my FC!!!

cool that it worked.. I didn't really think it was *THAT* hard to get off, but that's prolly cause of the 600 lb*ft impact wrench i used.. 1 second, and it was completely out.

Getting it back IN, on the other hand, was a pain.. The crush washer kept falling off as i screwed it in, and i was scared to death that it would come off and get messed up... and leak oil all over... But, apparantly not..

I didn't want to use the impact wrench to get it back in, since i don't know the forward torque values for the different settings.. I heard 90 lb*ft, so i screw it in by hand as much as i can, then use a bigass torque wrench to get it in as much as i can.. At this point, it's "in" enough that i can let the clutch out, put it in 5th gear to stop the engine from spinning, and crank that **** down to 90 lb*ft.. lots o' locktite, too..hehe

He didn't use anything to cusion the pulley did he?

With the friction of the entire outer edge of that pulley, you really don't need all that much clamping force. I also used the former A/C pulley and once the bolt was tightened, (again with 18" 1/2" drive flex head wrench) I proceded to remove those pulleys. (had another groove that never was used in my ownership)

Thanks Jimmy325i. I am know thinking of getting an underdrive pulley from Unorthodox. In fact, let me post this as a new thread.
