Replaced Trans, stalling in gear

Ok so yes, I have read numerous posts about idling, clutch switches, and the tps. I must say I have learned a lot and answered a lot of my questions already, but I still have two.
First off, I am in an 87 TII, so here is the setup...A while back I had a problem with my 15A engine fuse popping when releasing the clutch to pull out. It took me some time, but eventually I realized that it was the clutch switch(lower switch, not the starter interlock) causing this to happen, so I just took it out and went on my way. About a month ago, my tranny started acting up, it was very hard to shift, then eventually just wouldn't shift at all. So, I parked the car until I could get around to rebuilding or replacing it. I found a somewhat cheap replacement from an S5 turbo and an S5 flywheel. I went ahead and swapped them, everything going well. Finally just the other day, it came time for the test drive. The car runs well and shifts fine. I must say I can feel the difference with the lighter flywheel. However, when I approach a stop sign, downshifting, then sitting at a stop idling in first, the car wants to die, put it in neutral, then it goes to normal idle.
So my questions are these... First, was my original clutch switch bad, causing the fuse to blow or is there a short in the wiring? Two, is this possibly related to the problem I am having now with the low idle while in gear, and I need to put a new switch in?

Check your clutch hydraulics- maybe the pressure plate is not quite releasing all of the load on the disk, causing some drivetrain loads on the engine while stopped (your foot is on the brake during these times, I presume)...

If you had another short, you'd be blowing a fuse, simple as that...
