Removing stock exhaust TIPS

Guys,

I just purchased OEM exhaust tips for my low mileage '89 TII (current tips are rusted out. My question is, how do they attach? It appears that they have to be welded on....is this correct? If so, how do I remove the old ones?

Yea, I did the same on my '89TII...I cut them off with an air cutter. There are welded "plates/spacers" on each muffler the chrome tips are attached to.
