removing p/s, not another repost

i took my belt off my p/s today and god damn it was hard as **** to turn, was this because the fluid is still in the system? i read in a thread i searched for and it said removing the belt is a way to tell how the car will turn with the pump removed and fluid pumped out. obviously this isnt right cause i could barely turn the damn wheel and im by no means wimpy, every car ive owned has had no p/s. next when i remove the pump will i be able to remove the bracket that it connects too without bothering the a/c. i am keeping the a/c but want the bracket to go and cannot tell if it is all one huge metal piece or not. thanks in advance

Yes, its hard as hell to turn it with the fluid still in the rack but the belt off. Believe me, my friend didn't drain it on his FC and it was tough turning it at a stand still.
