Do you have a particular issue with those that drift thier FCs?

Maybe hes envious of drifters? Just a shot in the dark. I mean, cause some people dislike what they can't do. :)

Naww.. my only issue is that most people who buy RX-7's are young and/or inexperienced drivers. I just hate seeing 7's and/or their drivers die because of somebody doing something stupid. Most people who drift also do it on open public roads with other people on them; putting other drivers in danger. I don't like that.

Thats my only problem with "drifters". I've met plenty of drifters who have a dedicated drift car and drift on a closed course. I have no problem with those types of people.

Mazda Remans are $2200. Thats the value of the parts inside! Great deal for anyone on a budget.

It's pretty simple

For reliability, swap the engine to a factory turbo engine (13BT, 13B-RE, 13B-REW, 20B-REW), otherwise keep the 6 port NA that you have now.
Rebuild with Aggressive streetport, half-bridgeport, full bridgeport, j-bridgeport, semi-peripheral port or peripheral port (The last three are overkill)
You might want to replace the rotors with S4 or S5 turbo rotors, you can keep your stock 9.4 rotors if you want to gamble with a high-comp turbo, people have done it successfully but they know what they're doing.
A decent sized turbo with a good exhaust A/R
A standalone
Upgraded Injectors
Upgraded Fuel pump
Downpipe/pre-silencer (Kiss emissions goodbye, so this car technically is not street-legal anymore)
Catback exhaust
Intake

And a bunch of other stuff

I've read (Pineapple website?) that many Mazda remans have some build "flaws" and the best thing to do is order the reman and rebuild it to ensure there are no "flaws". I recall a picture of a bunch of metal shavings in an oil pan... couple other things I can't recall. From the pictures I saw, I'd definitely tear the reman apart before installing it in your car.

I got quoted $2621 before tax for a re-manufactured engine at the Mazda dealership in Hayward, CA not more than a few months ago. So I'm guessing it's still near that price.

You can get it rebuilt, which IMHO is a great deal as I'm running a rebuilt motor now and it runs like a champ. Only issue I can see with that is the "hard parts" (like the housings, rotors, etc..) not being in spec and needing them to be replaced, which can be very pricey. The upside of that is you can get the motor ported and get more horsepower while it's apart and the re-man'd motor would have to be disassembled and put back together to achieve the same effect. $$$

You can get your motor "built" and have all that done at once i'm assuming and it seems to be within the same price range as a re-man.

Don't get a used motor unless you know the person firsthand. I went up to the Mazda recycler in Rancho Cordova to check out a used one and was promised an average of 100k on the motor only to find the car had 200k+ on the clock and would probably need to be rebuilt anyways. Good if you had an apex seal that grenaded and needed some half decent housings to replace it, but otherwise just a bad idea.

My suggestion is to get it rebuilt by a reputable builder as you will not be disappointed. The price is right and most of them will offer you a warranty on thier work. Karack is up in Marysville and I highly recommend his work.

Atkins Rotary in Pulyum Washington Will send you a rebuilt and pay the freight. They want the core returned and they will credit you depending on the condition of the original. Make sure to buy it with the fly wheel attached and be careful when installing the O rings gave me a fit. my 91 runs like a charm doesn't burn a lot of oil and starts with no problem
