what exactly does this do? i'm just curious bc my tubing has a hole in it and its still running fine.

 

It's just a muffler for the air dump on the ACV. You could pull it off and all that would happen is you'll hear the air pump more when the air is vented off.

 

so no air pump means that the relief silencer is doing nothing?

 

i know this thread is pretty old but i am trying to clean up the engine bay on my 87 tII. Can i just remove the whole tube and everything will run smoothly? I will be removing my air pump soon enough anyway. the hose is kinda in the way of my intake i made. thanks

 

When the airpump is not needed, it's continuously vented out to the relief silencer. On the FD the air pump is de clutched instead.

if you don't have your air pump and ACV running then the vent hose doesn't do much good either

 

ya i took the hose off a min ago and it sounded like a horrible exhaust leak so ill wait till i remove the air pump all together.

 

Rig a kazoo on the pipe...everyone would laugh and laugh.
