That little black box has been discussed at great length, and nobody can figure out what it is.

It looks like a relay in that picture, but as I recall in the old thread on this, they opened it and found a circuit board inside.

Yep, not a relay. Here's what it looks like inside:

And before people start making random guesses at what it is, please read the original thread so you know what we already know it isn't...

So, there's a plug with wires on it on the harness. It seems the author of the thread could get his meter out and find out where the other end of each wire is on the harness. Then maybe it could be figured out.

So get to work with a meter and write back where each wire of the harness plug goes to.

How would one go about doing that?

I wouldn't use any ECU that I didn't know that sort of info about. It could have had anything done to it, and be totally unsuited to your car. It could also be nothing but a sticker. You have no way of knowing.

Does anyone know what the N371 ECU goes to? I'm guessing S5 TII... I haven't seen any reference to it except 1 post from Ted saying he had one and had no clue when it was from.

I'm talking the little black box and the picture NZCONVERTIBLE posted which showed a connector on the jack of the little black box.

I'm talking one pin in the harness plug at a time. PUt a meter on one socket/pin then go to each plug on the harness and probe each socket/pin on each plug.

I'd a done that before waiting months to have someone on this forum make guesses. Less time involved. Nothing wrong with asking folk, BUT I'd a run outta patience by now and would have probed the plug as described above.

If you know where the wires go, then you can/might have a clue as to what it does in life. Gotta start somewhere.

It would be of interest if the thread author would say what harness the plug is on. The EM harness or the Front harness or the ????? harness.

Sure that''s not N374????????? instead of 371?

Ok, you still confused the hell out of me, but I'll figure it out somehow.

It is 374. I was looking at the top of big white sticker which looked like 371. But, if you look at the white text in the black field just below the big 371, it says 374. So... yeah...

Talking the little black box and the harness plug on it. Remove the plug. Put a meter on ohms and one lead in a socket on the plug. Take the other meter lead and go to each and every other plug on that harness til the meter *rings* or shows continuity. AH HA. It goes to the auxillary fan! (just an example). Then do every other pin in that black box's harness plug.
