redline in the transmission

Has anyone ever tried redline gear oil in their transmission? What results did you get? I've heard some good things about it, but it's expensive, so I want to know if it's worth it.
One more thing, do you think that an underlubed transmission would slow the car down significantly?

I run it, i like it a bunch. It's good stuff. And underlubed is a bad idea.

running it in both mine. It runs good once the transmission is warmed up, but the NA transmission tends to very clickish/notchy during shifts when cold.

I avoid that though by warming the car up in the morning & keeping it in first gear until I get to the end of the block. That seems to get everything nice & lubricated.

Also using it in the rear diff. When cold (first 5 miles) it seems like I get a bit of kickback from the rear diff when shifting at higher RPMS.

Of course I believe everyone has this problem no matter what product they use.

The TII trans is oh-so-smooth when shifting though - go figure.

I run it as well and I believe that it is worth the extra few bucks that it costs. The car feels smoother at higher rpms. Take it a step farther and start premixing your fuel with an ounce of 2 stroke oil per gallon of gasoline and my rpms are smooth as butter. I run my 88 GTU NA real real hard and like the brand name I redline her all the time without the hint of any problems whatsoever.

How much are you guys paying for a quart of redline?

I have used Redline and other synthetic brands, I really did not see any difference using redline or another brand of synthetic.

Just seems more money for same stuff.

It also seems to get just as dirty just as fast as all the other brands..So it needs to be changed just as often as other synthetics..

my .02 cents

also make sure you rinse out your transmission with kerosene before to put new fluid in, or your not really doing much to help yourself, as all the crap that has built up is still laying in the bottom of the trans...and has coated all the parts inside.

is that really the right way to clean it out? kerosene seems like it would eat seals up or something...

Keorsene would work very well to clean out the tranny, but it's not really necessary. In a transmission, there are no combustion byproducts for the oil to deal with, and any metal shavings are normally picked up by the magnetic drain plug. Don't waste time flushing your transmission. Just drain and fill it with a good synthetic.

I have been using Amsoil synthetic for years, and it works very well.

Having an underfilled transmission is BAD. It will cause nastyness, such as dead bearings and broken input shafts (ask me how I know).

I just did a tranny fluid change.
I used redline 70w-140 and a bottle of Lucas tranny stop stuff. Boy was that stuff thick.
I live in arizona where it never gets below 30degrees so I can go pretty thick.

I have a slowly dying 2nd gear syncro. I haven't really felt a difference in it.

I figured that I am going to change the tranny fluid not as often as oil changes so I might as well get some good fluid so I don't have to worry.

Anyone else used the Lucas stuff? I used the tranny stop.I heard that the oil stabilizer is also good for tranny's. Any input?

Red Line MTL did wonders for my 2nd gear synchro. It only grinds when going super-hard now. I think I got it for about seven bucks a quart.
