go back to stock.

The stock ones are orange and are the best color for night driving.

Red may bother your eyes or be hard to see.

Any single color will help maintain night vision. Red provides the best night vision (i.e., it's EASIEST to see), making it the ideal choice for long night time trips. Most of the military uses red at night. Blue is the best choice if you go from lighted indoors to dark car to lighted indoors, because it causes the least eye strain (least "bother on the eyes"). Military subs switched from red to blue b/c of the repeated dark/light changes. Green is best for looking at pictures because you can distinguish more shades of green. Night vision goggles use green. Orange is about 2 parts red and 1 part green. I'm sure orange works great, but I see no special reason to use it.

+1 on that.

As for making them red, I'm not sure how you expect to do that, MazdalicousRx7, if you're using indiglo gauges. But if I'm misinterpretting and your gauge cluster is still stock, just replace the bulbs in the back of the cluster with red counterparts. They come in the same size and red will reflect as red off of orange paint.
