Recipe for emissions test
I failed my emissions test today. Under a load I scored 2.05 in CO out of 1.20 allowable. In idle, the car passed perfectly (0.10 out of 1.20). I've given the car a tune-up (plugs, wires, fuel filter, air filter, timing check) yet I failed in CO only. I passed HC but they were still a little high. I installed a Catco cat system from summitracing.com as well.
What is necessary to bring my CO levels down? Could it be an O2 sensor? If so, where is the cheapest place to get a new one?
What else could be going on?
(I've searched for emissions posts but found nothing relevant).
All of this is on an '86 NA.

I blew the legal limit last year on HC in my 86. It was the third try and I was *REALLY* happy to pass
I bought a Bosch O2sensor today from Autozone for $18. It doesn't have the OEM connector on it (for that you pay much more) but it DID come with some heat shrink, a but-splice, and pre-anti-seized threads.
NOW, If I could get my OLD one out I'd be stylin!
Also, change your oil. And make sure the cat is good and hot (from driving, not your AZ sun) when you pull in for the test.
How much did you pay for that cat? How long have you had it? And did they have a warrenty if you still fail???

its prob the O2 sensor...i had that problem in may when i went for emissions........but, i dind't replace the O2 sensor till afterwards. just go to the auto parts store. get a bottle of GTP (guaranteed to pass emissions) gas additive. fill up your tank. dump this bottle in. drive the car around till that tank it empty. then take the car to inspection. after i did this i passed no problem and if you don't pass you get your money back from the bottle, lol
