Unhappy received free rx7 gtu

New member and I have been given a 88 RX7 GTU. Problem is it fires up but when you put a load on it it dies. Since I'm new to the rotary world what might the problem be?

need more info.

it could be anything from the injector harness being swapped (primary connected to secondaries and secondaries connected to primaries) to a problem with the fuel table in a stand alone, to somethings been removed that we would have to look for.

Engine load (or electrical load)? How much throttle? Any modifications? Checked for vacuum leaks (ask)? What RPM? Let us know.

BTW, welcome to the club. Read the FAQ and archives at the top of this section to find more info on your GTU and in general (if you haven't already).

Have you done a basic tuneup on it?

I'd suggest doing that, and while you're under the hood looking at the plugs you can give the injector harness theory a try.

Welcome, obviously a little more info about what exactly happens would be cool. Possibly one of the filters needs a cleaning/change. Hose leaks mentioned about are also a big one. Also the belts aren't sliping are they? Another possiblity is that your hitting the fuel switch. Not every 7 has one though (it a switch located under the steering column). If its not switched toward you the car will start up for a sec and then die. Congrates on getting a free RX7 a lotta people would kill for one.

Thanks for the responses. i still have not picked it up yet. My biggest concern was getting something with a ton of gremlins in it or something that would have to go back to the Mazda enginers to figure out the problem. Once I get it I'll start with the easiest and most cost effective.
