Recaros in 2nd gens
Probably not many people here have 'em - Recaros are MIGHTY damn pricey. Really nice seats, though.
With any aftermarket seat, the real trick is the bracket to make the seat bolt to the floor of the car. They can be a real bear to fabricate, and pre-made brackets (which are hard to find) are usually pricey for what you get.

OK, to elaborate on the previous question.. my convertible has the original leather seats that are, well, destroyed. What would be the best thing to do here - get them re-covered, scour the earth for good second gen seats, or try to put in aftermarkets...
What have others in this situation done?

Recover them.
I have always found the originals to be very comfortable - especially on long trips of a thousand or more miles. When mine were shot I went to a local company that installs leather for new car dealers. They recoverd the seats (including the headrest speakers) for $800. I'm not too sure if that was a high price, but they restuffed and rebuilt the bolsters too and I am loving them.
The best thing I have learned is to immediately rip the left rear pocket buttons off all my pants before they scar and tear the seats.

There is a place in Houston Texas called Maz-Max that deals in new, rebuilt and used parts.

I just say a pair of blk leather vert seats that were mint for $500 for the pair. I would buy'em myself right now if I had the cabbage. When I do, I'm checking with them first.

Ever check out Sparco? They're what all the rally drivers use (US Pro-Rally) so they're strong as hell.
You can get a set of Sparco EVO's for like $500, I believe...maybe less. Of course, I haven't looked at them in a while, price estimates of mine could be WAY off... But I know they're less expensive than Recaro.
