rebuiulding 88 rx7 headlight switch

Im working on getting everything back to correct on my 88 GXL. a PO has bypassed the whole headlight harness and ran speaker wire off a fuse, so the headlight are on any time the key is on. If i operate the switch, the headlight will flip up correctly, but the wiring behind it (from where they cut off the plug) is dead. I pulled the switch and started testing pins as per the manual. where it shows there to be a diode when the switch is set it turn the headlights on, one way reads open like it should, the other reads 2 megaohms on resistance. Could this just be bad contacts in the switch, of is that diode bad? if it is the diode, does anyone know the number for it so i can solder in a new on.
