Rebuilt question/problem

Hey guys I bought a rebuilt streetported engine N/A for my 88 vert. I have 2600 miles on it right now, but I noticed awhile back when I first got it, it smoked a little when you start up, not a big problem but ever sicne I got it, its been running rich. Now it smokes a medium size amount of smoke (gas) once in awhile, Im assuming thats not good. My car starts up good, runs great. Should I change the 02 sensor and spark plugs? Also my mufflers are bad, dont know if that would cause anything. A little more info for you guys, from the day I got my rebuilt until 1000 miles I never ran it past 4200 rpm. When I got about 2000 miles I took it to 5500 rpm, but Ive done that maybe 6 times, and 5500 is the max ive taken it so far. Should I drive it harder and take it up to 6k? Ive been driving it lean so could that cause my running rich/smoke problem? Thanks guys in advance!

EDIT: dont know if this helps any but Im also running a straight pipe

Yeah, change it one more time.
After a rebuild, there is a lot of blow-by, and fuel can easily get into the engine oil.

Fuel in the engine oil makes it "watery", and this could cause the smoking.
