I have heard 1000 miles on most rebuilds. Thats how long you should take it easy for, I am sure someone will correct me if I am wrong. As for the idle I would say that you should check for vacuum leaks, does it stay running by itself at all?

Idle, check for vac leaks, check TPS and BAC

As far as the rebuild goes....no its not normal, the car idled when it was new (ie. rebuilt motor) and it doesn't now - therefore something is wrong.

The break-in period will be roughly the same on all (about 1000KMS) HOWEVER, if you installed new bearings, or new housings/irons.......these peices have yet to be heat cycled with the motor and will require that to be done.

Yeah I have a 3500 mile break-in period from atkins. But its super crazy because I am supposed to stay under 3500rpms for the first 500 miles. Than change oil and start increasing 500rpms per week or so, till I hit 3500 miles and change oil again or I hit redline. Whichever happens first. But I dunno if its just them saying it or what, but I know I follow their guidelines just so warranty is good.

I'm having the same problem aswell, only for an S4 TII. idles at ~ 1500. TPS has been adjusted at the ECU. My BAC is bad, resistance is at 13.5 ohms. I unplugged the BAC to see if that dropped my idle down but it didn't. Also after the motor warms up, the idle starts bouncing about 400 rpms, between 1300 and 1700, sometimes more. I don't have any vaccum leaks.

I've decided for my break in period it will be about 1500 miles and starting at a 4000 rpm, slowing increasing over time.
