Rebuilt mileage

Im kinda stuck on what to do here, I bought a '88 GXL with damage behind the drivers side door ( it had been written off) for 900$ CDN, it has 185,000 KM's on it and a tear in the driver seat, a K&N cone filter and custom 2 1/2" exhaust. I put about 5-600 CDN into it to pass inspections and all that so I could put it on the road, and it drove AWESOME for about a month, then the other day I blew an apex seal and here is where I don't know what to do. a rebuild with old rotor housings is 1800CDN from a guy in calgary AB, ( RX7 Specialties), compared to a rebuild with new turbo street ported housings for around 2550 CDN, then theres taxes and shipping.he says the apex seals are guaranteed for life and theres a 24000/12month warranty on the engine as well, any ways to make a long story short, woudl it be worth it to put a new engine into this car? I mean i love driving it and everything about the rotary, and i dont care that it has a salvaged title because it makes absolutley no difference in how it drives, but how reliable can an rx7 be? Im going to college this year in september and I CANNOT afford to have it **** out on me again? what kind of mileage/reliability have you guys been getting out of your rebuilds? any info on RX7 specialites credibility?

If you go with a stock rebuild, I am sure you will sell it far before it goes again. With a streetport, expect *atleast* 40,000 miles if it is done right. You can never gaurantee that nothing will go wrong, as with all cars, but if you are getting a professional rebuild you should be pretty confident that you wont have to shell out more for a rebuild in the next couple years.

In either case, break-in the engine for 2000 miles. That means no more than 4,000 rpm and no positive boost.

I recently read about some joker running a rebuild to 10 psi at high rpm and then wondered why the engine took a dump. Duh!

Calgary? Texas?
Don't you live in Vancouver... get it done there. Staff's Auto does excellent work with rotaries.

Rx-7 Specialties has generally had a good reputation, but it seems more and more often horror stories and conflicting stories about the place and services preformed are popping up. I wouldn't go there for a rebuild personally, but I haven't dealt directly with them.

2000 miles?? yeesh thats playing it pretty safe. I think everything will be pretty well seated by 1000 miles, then you can start upping the throttle and boost slowly.
