rebuilding headlight switch

Guys, where can i find a how to for rebuilding the headlight switch. I need it fixed by tonight. Me and my friend have been trying to take it apart and have already damaged the board, but repaired what we did, where am i looking for the part that burned? I can see where the harness burned, but where on the board do i need to reconnect? Thanks for your help.

I had to do this a couple weeks ago.

Before you go through all the trouble of taking it completely apart, check to see if you have a bad solder joint on the connector itself.

that rebuild is for one that the headlights dont work on, i failed to mention i am talking about the rear lights/dash lights not working problem. I guess im not looking for a rebuild, but a fix for this problem. Sorry for the confusion, i had already read that faq, i am looking for what is broken on this thing.

There is a thread in the 2nd gen tech archive on rebuilding the headlight switch.

Please use the search function before posting.

And if the harness is burnt, you will need to replace the harness, and the plug soldered into the circuit board on the light switch. Do not rebuild the switch or try a new switch without replacing both those or it will just burn out again in a month or two.

and I sell rebuilt headlight switches in my webstore if you get in over your head.
