Rebuilding the brake booster?

Is it possible? Ive been having some issues with dissapearing brake fluiid and I see no leaks outside of the car. Through talks with a friend, he mentioned the seal between the master cylinder and the booster going bad and fluid leaking into the booster. Is it possible to pull the booster off and replace the seals?

never heard of anyone aside from a remanufacturer rebuilding a booster, they should be able to withstand some brake fluid but siphoning it out would be best, the seal referred to is the shaft seal on the brake master cylinder so if there is a leak back there then the master cylinder is the fault and needs to be rebuilt or replaced.

If brake fluid is getting into the booster, it is the master cylinder that needs to be rebuiltand the booster replaced. The booster is a sealed unit that holds vacuum, if you pull the rubber hose off and there is a sucking sound then it is fine. Basically fluid loss is the fault of the master cylinder, lines or calipers.

So would I be better of getting both a new master cylinder and booster? Can I trust getting a used one off someone from the forum?

That's the kind of part I'd rather buy new, especially the master cylinder.

I hate it when I get conflicting information, one person says the booster is leaking, the other is saying the master cyl is leaking

If it is losing fluid it can't be coming from the booster since fluid of the system never sees the booster. If somehow fluid is leaking into the booster it is because the master cylinder is leaking just like people stated before. Unbolt your master cyl from the booster (2 bolts) and see if the rear seal is leaking. You probably should notice that the paint on the booster directly under the master cyl is bubbling off if the master cyl is leaking.

Well I was told there is a seal that is part of the booster assembly that keeps the fluid out. Ill have to take the master cyl off and look at it
